The World’s First Battle Rap Game!

While hip-hop and mobile technologies are both multi-billion dollar industries, until now no one has been able to truly mesh the two concepts to allow music fans the opportunity to more directly interact with their favorite artists.

That’s all changed with the first release from Jump Shot Media, “Battle Rap Stars.” The mobile game pits users against premier up-and-coming hip-hop artists, putting their rhyming skills to the test with each level. It’s the first game of its kind, and the only to reach out to the millions of hip-hop fans across the globe.

Jump Shot Media, based in Silicon Valley, started with an idea by IT professional Jerald Perry—otherwise known as the rapper J Peezy—to promote his work as an artist through mobile media. After discussing his idea with his friend Keith Andrews, another professional in the tech industry, the two tweaked the concept into a mobile game. They then developed the first blueprint for the game and filed a patent in 2009.

Andrews and Perry immediately got to work assembling a small team at their new company, Jump Shot Media LLC, bringing on rapper and former CEO of the successful street basketball apparel company Y.P.A.  Together they are building a firm that focuses exclusively on blending mobile technology and hip-hop music.

“At a time when music sales are about half of what they were 10 years ago, this is the next logical step for the hip-hop industry,” says Andrews. “In the past, people in hip-hop haven’t really been thinking about the tech industry and how it can help them promote music. We’re changing all that.”

As the company’s hallmark game, Battle Rap Stars is the only mobile app with the technology capable of evaluating and scoring original rap performances. The better you rap in the game, the higher your score and the further you advance through its five rounds. As you reach each round, the challenges become greater.

The game features Grammy-nominated rapper Paul Wall, world-recognized battle and freestyle rapper Mistah F.A.B, critically acclaimed and outspoken L.A.-based rapper Hopsin, J Peezy and Fresh Caesar.

Above all, Jump Shot Media’s foundations lie in the founder’s passion of hip-hop.

“This game will be the place for artists to expand their name and interact with fans directly,” Perry says. “It’s the world’s first battle rap game where you can take on artists yourself. You can’t get more personal than that.”
