What is Battle Rap Stars?
Battle Rap Stars is the world’s first battle rap game that allows users to go head-to-head with top artists while scoring their original vocal performances. With each level, the challenge gets more difficult, culminating in a face-off with rapper Paul Wall.
Do you have to be a battle rapper to play the game?
No. There are other great apps on the market that are created for rappers to battle each other by posting their recorded battles online for people to comment and vote on. Battle Rap Stars is a GAME designed for everybody to play (not just rappers). If you can stay in rhythm and rap along with your favorite song, you already have what it takes to play the game.
How does Battle Rap Stars determine if my rap is good or not?
In a Rap Battle, Rappers are typically judged by a group of their peers on how good they can Flow. A good flow is judged based on the rhythmic delivery of words and syllables, content of lyrics, rhymed patterns and phrases, and vocal presence.
We have developed a patent-pending scoring system that can automatically rate the rhythmic delivery of words and syllables, decipher specific words, rhyme patterns and measure vocal presence. In the first version of Battle Rap Stars we have integrated a policy-based system for analyzing your rap for rhythm, rhymed sounds and vocal presence. Future updates of the game will provide even greater analysis, scoring your rap based language, specific rhyme count and content.
Why do I need headphones?
One of the key components of scoring your rap performance is determining if it is in rhythm with the background beat. If the background beat is loud enough to be captured, it will be used in the analysis and obviously be in perfect rhythm. Unless you want to cheat the system, you must wear headphones in version 1. Future updates will not have this limitation.
I heard you can cheat the game.
Battle Rap Stars was designed to process the rhythmic delivery of spoken rhymes generated from human vocals. In version 1 of the game, we do not distinguish one language from another. Our sound engine processes the vibration of a tap or any similar sounding sound, just as it would the vibration of a word in English, Japanese or any other spoken language. In version 1 of Battle Rap Stars, the vibration of multiple taps can trick our sound engine to process each same sounding tap as a rhymed word. If the taps were rhythmically delivered in cadence with the beat, you could cheat the game and score a perfect rap. However, what fun would that be? Every game has a way to cheat. The challenge of a game is to win honestly without cheating and in this game that means rapping not tapping.
Will background noise affect my score?
Yes. It is extremely important that you play the game with as little background noise as possible as this will and can negativity affect your score.
Does Battle Rap Stars work with all languages?
Yes. This is one of the reasons we chose to not evaluate your lyrical content in the first revision of the game. We want everybody, regardless of language to be able to play Battle Rap Stars.
Battle Rap Stars crashes during the vocal performance analysis.
If you are running an older versions of the iOS you may experience problems especially if you receive a call or text during game play. If this occurs, we recommend restarting the game. If the problems persist we recommend restarting your device.
